Unearned run downs Braves

For the second consecutive night, the Braves and the Suns faced off in a pitcher's duel. Jacksonville got an unearned run in the fifth and it proved to be the difference in the game.

Jacksonville took the lead in the top of the fifth when Tydus Meadows got a two out single. He moved to third when former Braves first rounder AJ Zapp reached on an error by first baseman Barbaro Canizares. Meadows came in to score on a wild pitch by Coggin.

Danny Muegge (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K) threw seven shutout innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead. He improved to 6-4 on the year. Casey Hoorelbeke (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K) threw a scoreless eighth inning. Mark Alexander (1.0 IP, 1 HB) threw a shutout ninth inning to notch his 16th save of the season.

Dave Coggin (5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 1 WP) allowed an unearned run through five innings in only his second outing since coming off the dl on 6/11. He fell to 0-3 on the year. Jose Ascanio (2.0 IP, 4 K, 1 HB) threw two scoreless innings. Arthur Santos (2.0 IP, 4 K) threw two shutout innings for the Braves.

Mississippi and Jacksonville play game three tomorrow night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 pm. The Braves send lefty Chris Waters to the hill in search of his fourth win of the season while the Suns counter with righty Heath Totten who's looking for his sixth win. The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm (CT) on SuperSport 930.
