Stars hammer Jaxx

Huntsville, AL (June 14th)- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx first half pennant hopes took a major hit on Wednesday afternoon as the Diamond Jaxx were hammered by the Huntsville Stars 12-0. The twelve run loss was the worst beating handed to the Diamond Jaxx by any team this year.

Tim Dillard (4-4) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Matt Smith and Gerrit Simpson pitched a perfect inning each to complete the shutout.

Jeff Eure had three hits and four RBI's to pace the Stars seventeen hit attack. Brad Nelson chipped in with three hits and three RBI's while Ron Acuna had a pair of hits and three RBI's.

Bobby Brownlie suffered the loss, dropping his Diamond Jaxx record to 2-4 on the season. Brownlie allowed three runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Paul Schappert allowed eight runs (three earned) on six hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief. The only time the Diamond Jaxx retired the Stars in order was in the eighth inning when Jaxx IF Richard Lewis came in to pitch. Lewis wound up striking out two in his perfect inning of relief.

The Diamond Jaxx and Stars will complete the suspended game from June 1st tomorrow night beginning at 6:05 p.m. Thirty minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game, the two teams will play the seven inning regularly scheduled game.
