Two transactions in the books for Grrrowl
August 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced two transactions for the upcoming season. COREY HESSLER has signed an ECHL Standard Players Contract, and the rights to NICK LENT have been acquired from the San Diego Gulls to complete an earlier trade agreement.
COREY HESSLER (6-1, 205lbs., Defenseman) comes to Greenville from the Columbia Inferno via the Johnstown Chiefs on January 31, 2004 for Jeff Zehr. In the deal, Johnstown received future considerations from Columbia and designated that player to Greenville. HESSLER played 126 games with Columbia over the past two seasons, and total 69 points and 173 penalty minutes. He also has 8 games of experience in the AHL with the Portland Pirates during this past season.
NICK LENT (6-5, 225lbs., forward) was property of the Grrrowl during the past season, but never actually made it to Greenville. Lent and Jonathan Zion were traded to Greenville from the Reading Royals, for Grrrowl All-Star Chris Lynch and Eric Lind on February 3, 2004. Lent was then called up to the AHL Springfield Falcons for the remaining 27 games of the 2003-04 season, and was then traded to San Diego prior to the ECHL playoffs, and participated in all three games of the first round of playoffs against the Alaska Aces, who defeated the Gulls in three games. When the trade was made to San Diego, Greenville received the rights to a player after the season, who turned out to be veteran forward Clayton Read, who has not been signed by the Grrrowl. During the past season, Nick totaled 28 points (10G, 18A) and 86 penalty minutes in 72 games. The Phoenix Coyotes selected Lent in the 8th round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
The Grrrowl will open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004 against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information.
