Two Runs Enough for Sharks to Win 3rd Straight

July 5, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

Wilmington, NC- The Wilmington Sharks (19-11, 3-0) had trouble getting anything going at the plate on Tuesday night, but their defense was good enough to get a 2-1 win over the Morehead City Marlins (14-14, 0-1).

The first run for the Sharks came in the third inning. Matt Meeder (Mercer) walked and later scored on a Clark Scoalmiero (South Carolina) sacrifice fly. They followed the same formula in the fifth inning as Grant Koch (Arkansas) singled and scored on a Brett Smith (Bucknell) sacrifice fly.

Morehead was not without their chances. They left nine runners on base, but their best chance came in the fourth inning. A hit batter, a single and a walk loaded the bases with only one out, but two infield pop outs retired the side. They would score once in the seventh as Justin Weigle (Ouachita Baptist) tripled and scored on a single.

The win went to Evan Eubanks (2-0). He threw five innings, with six hits, no runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Wyatt Hamilton (1-1) took the loss, pitching five and two thirds innings, allowing two runs, on four hits, five walks and one strikeout. Shelton Perkins (1) picked up the save with two innings, no runs on one hit and one strikeout.

The Sharks stay at home on Wednesday to host Petersburg, when it will be Wing Wednesday from Buffalo Wild Wings.
