
Six Pilots Named to 2016 CPL All-Star Game

HAMPTON, Va. - The Coastal Plain League announced on Tuesday afternoon that six Peninsula Pilots were named as representatives of the East Division All-Stars to the 2016 CPL All-Star Game that will take place on Monday, July 11 at J.P. Riddle Stadium hosted by the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
Three of the six Pilots that were named will be one of the nine starters that will be coached by Pilots head coach Hank Morgan. Darian Carpenter (Virginia Commonwealth) earned the starting nod at first base while Kurt Sinnen (Old Dominion) will be the designated hitter and Will Shepherd (Liberty) will man one of the three outfield positions as a starter. Shepherd, who has a .380 batting average, has started 25 games and has a CPL-high 31 RBIs along with 17 runs and is second on the team with nine stolen bases. Carpenter bats .242 and has 18 runs along with two home runs and 13 RBIs. Sinnen has a .295 average and is second on the team with 16 RBIs.
Peninsula has two players that have posted stellar first half seasons that will come off the bench in the All-Star Game. Cole Austin (West Virginia) has hit .333 in s17 games and has 13 runs while belting a home run and driving in nine runs. Franco Guardascione (Jacksonville) hits .302 and has 12 RBI and 10 runs for the Pilots.
Left-hander Devin Hemmerich (Norfolk State) is the lone representative of the Peninsula Pilots' pitching staff. Hemmerich anchors a strong Pilots' pitching staff that has posted a 3.13 ERA, which is first in the CPL. The left-hander is 2-0 on the season with a microscopic 0.84 ERA in 21 1/3 innings.
Peninsula infielder Kyle McPherson (James Madison) is one of four players that advanced to the Final Vote ballot that takes place from Tuesday, July 5th at 3 p.m. until Wednesday, July 6th at 3 p.m. Fans can vote for McPherson with no vote limit at http://coastalplain.com/page/2016_cpl_all-star_game_final_vote
The squads will head Fayetteville, N.C., with July 10th being the Fan Fest and Home Run Derby followed by the CPL All-Star Game on the 11th.
