ASHEBORO, N.C.--The Asheboro Copperheads struck for three runs in the first inning and cruised to an 8-3 win over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Monday.
Ryan Colombo led the Copperheads attack with a 3-5 night, scoring twice. Deivy Palmeiro drove in two runs while Matt Horkey pitched four scoreless innings of relief.
The SwampDogs received solo home runs from Jack Conley and Tyler Tharp, pulling the game to 4-2 in the fourth before Horkey entered the game in the fifth for Asheboro.
The SwampDogs fall to 0-2 in the second half while Asheboro improves to 2-0. Fayetteville has Tuesday off before returning to action on Wednesday in Morehead City at 7:05pm. The SwampDogs return home Thursday night for First Reponders Night at 7:05pm.
