Edenton Steamers News Release
LEXINGTON, SC - The Edenton Steamers put on a Fourth of July show with an 11-3 drubbing of the Lexington County Blowfish on Monday night. Edenton (1-1, 13-17) put up ten or more for the second time in three games while Lexington County (0-2, 17-13) dropped its third straight home game.
John Russell collected the win for the Teal and Black. Russell (1-0) allowed one run on two hits while fanning three Blowfish batters in 2.1 innings of work. Starter Eric Scheuermann gave the Steamers 4.2 innings while surrendering two runs, one earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Tyler Norris shouldered the loss for the Blowfish. Norris (1-1) last 5.1 innings, giving up nine runs on twelve hits while walking two and striking out three.
The Blowfish jumped out in front with a leadoff homerun from Chas McCormick in the bottom of the first, but the Clams responded with a two-run homer off the bat of Tony Rosselli to take a 2-1 lead through two innings.
Edenton added to its lead with another run in the fourth. Thatcher Coleman led off the inning with a walk, stealing second to put a man in scoring position. Two batters later, Zack Jones gave the Steamers a 3-1 lead with an RBI double.
After the two teams traded runs to bring the score to 4-2, the Clams broke the game open with five runs in the sixth. Ryan Byers started the rally with a one-out walk, and back-to-back singles from Aaron Aucker and Bobby Schuman plated Byers and left runners on the corners. Mitchell Price added a double that scored Aucker, and a wild pitch brought in Schuman and moved Price to third. Trey Hair and Rosselli knocked two more singles to bring in Price, and after a Coleman flyout advanced both runners into scoring position, Ben Prada finished off the scoring with an infield single to give Edenton a 9-2 lead.
The Blowfish added another homerun in the bottom of the sixth, but they would get no closer as the Steamers polished off the scoring with two runs in the eighth.
The Edenton Steamers visit the High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Tuesday night before returning to Historic Hicks Field to host the Gastonia Grizzlies on Wednesday. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
