Harrisburg Senators News Release
Marvin Lowrance scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to give the Harrisburg Senators the lead, and Cole Kimball pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the win, as the Senators beat the Reading Phillies 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park.
Edgardo Baez had blasted a pinch-hit home run to lead off that inning to tie the game, and Lowrance then walked with one out. After a Jesus Valdez single moved him to third base, Chris Marrero came in to pinch hit. The R-Phils made a pitching change, bringing in RHP Chance Chapman, and Chapman promptly threw one past his catcher to allow Lowrance to score.
The Senators (36-40) were trailing throughout the game, as Reading (35-39) scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Matt Rizzotti led off that inning with a single, and then scored on a triple by Kevin Mahar. Mahar later scored, when Torre Langley grounded into a double play.
Drew Naylor, the starting pitcher for Reading, held the Senators scoreless until the fifth, when Danny Espinosa drove in Sean Rooney with an RBI single. Rooney had doubled with one out earlier in the inning. Espinosa's hit cut the deficit to 2-1.
Kimball (2-1) earned the win by pitching the final two innings, and giving up just one hit. Sergio Escalona (1-5) ended up with the loss, as he was responsible for Lowrance at third base in the eighth. No Senator hitter had more than one hit in the game, as the Sens finished with five hits total as a team. Baez, Espinosa, Lowrance, Valdez, and Rooney had the hits.
The Senators now take the road, and begin a three-game road series at the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday night at 7 PM. The Sea Dogs are 38-36 on the season. Left-hander Aaron Thompson (3-9, 6.10) gets the start for the Sens, while RHP Jeremy Kehrt (1-3, 3.45) goes for Portland. Radio coverage with Terry Byrom begins at 6:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
