Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN, UT - Ogden Raptors players Ronny Brito and Jose Chacin have been named to the Pioneer League Season-End All Star Team, as announced by the league office on Saturday.
Brito, a 19-year-old shortstop in his third year of professional baseball, is turning in his best season yet while coming back from a gruesome knee injury that ended his 2017 season. As of August 31, Brito was batting .293 (60-for-205) in 49 games with 11 doubles, 11 home runs (tied for the team lead), 50 RBI and 34 runs scored. He was with Ogden when he suffered the injury to end his 2017 campaign, batting .238 in 16 games. "When he's not in the lineup, you can definitely tell the team is a little different," said Raptors manager Jeremy Rodriguez. "Coming off the injury last year and bouncing back as well as he has will give him a lot of confidence going into next year."
The Raptors' 2018 Opening Day starting pitcher, Chacin was a rotation stalwart for Ogden until earning a promotion to Single-A Great Lakes in mid-August. In 12 starts with the Raptors, Chacin turned in a 6-2 record with a 2.85 ERA, striking out 51 and walking just 14 in 66 1/3 innings pitched. "With his mound presence and the way he kept hitters off-balance, Chacin was a guy who we felt would get us a win every time he took the mound," said Rodriguez. "That was a huge boost of confidence for both our offense and defense."
Coco Montes of Grand Junction was named the Ralph Nelles Award honoree as the offensive MVP. The Logan Hurlbert Pitcher of the Year Award went to Idaho Falls left-hander J.C. Cloney. Tim Esmay of Great Falls was the Manger of the Year.
