Fry & Turang Power Brewers Past Voyagers
Helena, MT - In another back and forth affair on a pleasant Friday night at Kindrick Legion Field, the Helena Brewers offense came in full from two likely sources. David Fry and Brice Turang each drove home three runs, with Turang delivering the go ahead RBI in the eighth with the score tied at five. Helena hung on to win by that final, finishing the season 11-5 against the Great Falls Voyagers, posting a 7-1 record at home.
The Brewers cracked the ice in the first, as a one out single from Turang scored on a two out single from Fry, his seventh RBI of the series. However, the lead was short lived, as the Voyagers got two into scoring position with nobody out in the second courtesy of an Amado Nunez walk and an Alex Destino double. Both runners scored with one out on a single to left from Micah Coffey, making it 2-1 Voyagers.
Great Falls extended the lead with a run in the third on an infield single, but the Brewers tied the game at three in the third thanks to a two run home run from Brice Turang, the first of his career. The Voyagers took the lead right back in the top of the fourth, as a leadoff single from Jhoandro Alfaro scored on a double to left from Romy Gonzalez.
The Brewers though took the lead back thanks to another big hit from Fry in the bottom of the fifth. Je'Von Ward doubled to lead off the inning, and Turang walked to put the go ahead run on. Yeison Coca sacrificed both runners into scoring position for Fry, who smacked a ringing double off the left center field wall, scoring both to put Helena back in from 5-4. With the hit, Fry assured himself a multi RBI game in four straight contests.
Great Falls almost tied the game in the seventh, as they had two in scoring position with nobody out, but Brandon Presley got a ground ball to short that Turang threw home to nail the tying run at the plate. He then got Coffey to strike out swinging to keep the lead in hand for Helena.
The Voyagers tied the game with a RBI single from Sosa in the eight, but the Brewers had the last laugh. Connor McVey singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth, and Jesus Lujano singled him up to second with one out. Ward walked to load the bases, and Turang grounded a potential double play grounder to second, and beat the throw to first, scoring McVey to give Helena the lead. Michael Mediavilla came on for the ninth and got the save, his fourth of the year.
The Brewers open their last home series in franchise history against Missoula tomorrow, with Justin Bullock taking the ball. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and limited tickets are available at helenabrewers.net.
