WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY-Renegades rightfielder Marvin Malone belted a two-out, two-strike, walk-off, three-run homer as Hudson Valley defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats 7-6 in 10 innings Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. With the win, the Renegades won the season-series over the ValleyCats 5-4, and remained three games ahead of the Brooklyn Cyclones for first place in the McNamara Division.

Tri-City started the scoring in the first inning against Hudson Valley starter Christopher Sanchez, who was making his Renegades debut. A walk and two singles with one out loaded the bases before first-baseman Alex Holderbach reached on an infield single up the third-base line to put the ValleyCats in front. Catcher Oscar Campos followed with a sacrifice fly to center, and Tri-City owned a 2-0 lead.

The ValleyCats added another run in the third as leftfielder Carlos Machado picked up his sixth hit of the series in seven at-bats with a leadoff triple to right-centerfield. He scored two batters later when Holderback roped a double to left to make the score 3-0.

However, the Renegades came storming back with by batting around with four runs in the third. A hit-batsmen, single, and walk loaded the bases with one out when Erik Ostberg beat the shift by dribbling a single through the hole at short to score two runs and pull Hudson Valley to within one. First-baseman Jacson McGowan came up next and laced a single to center to bring in shortstop Ford Proctor from second and tie the game at three. After a walk to Chris Betts reloaded the bases with one out, third-baseman lifted a sac fly to center to score Ostberg and give Hudson Valley a 4-3 lead.

Tri-City came right back to tie the game in the fourth. Centerfielder Logan Mattix started the inning with a double to left. He went to third on a wild pitch, then scored when rightfielder Drew Ferguson roped a double of his own to left-center to tie the game at four.

Things stayed that way until the 10th inning when chaos ensued. The Renegades had a chance to win the game in the ninth when they loaded the bases with one out. However, ValleyCats reliever Luis De Paula got Ostberg and McGowan to strike out to end the threat.

In the top of the tenth, second-baseman Austin Dennis stood at third with two away when designated hitter Nate Perry ripped a two-run homerun over the rightfield wall to give Tri-City a 6-4 lead. It was Perry's second dinger of the year.

In the bottom-half, Hudson Valley got runners to first and second with one out when leftfielder Jordan Qsar grounded into a 4-6 fielder's choice for the second out. However, Qsar beat the throw to first to prevent a double play and keep the game alive, setting the stage for Malone's heroics. The Renegades rightfielder took a 1-2 curveball from De Paula and drilled it just inside the rightfield foul pole for his third homerun of the season to give the Renegades the win.

Getting the win for Hudson Valley was reliever Nick Sprengel (3-1) despite allowing the two-run blast to Perry. He allowed two runs, one earned in two innings. The loss fell to De Paiula (1-5) after he allowed three runs, two earned on two hits in 1.1 frames.

The Renegades had eight hits for the game. Malone was the only Hudson Valley player with more than one as he went 2-4 with his three-run homer and two runs scored. Tri-City, meanwhile, knocked out 14 hits. Machado went 5-5 with a triple and a run scored, and finished the series 9-10 with eight singles. In addition, Ferguson went 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI, Dennis finished 3-4 with three singles, and Holderbach drove in two runs by going 2-5 with a double.

Hudson Valley wraps-up its three-game series with Tri-City tomorrow night with a 6:05 start. There will be fireworks following the contest. The Renegades will trot right-hander Christopher Sanchez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound against fellow-righty Nivaldo Rodriguez (3-1, 2.47 ERA) for the ValleyCats.
