
Two-Out Runs Sink WhiteWings

HARLINGEN - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored eight two-out runs to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 10-7 on Wednesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Alexander Concepcion (4-4) was wild out of the gate, hitting two of the first four batters he faced. With one on and one out, C.J. Beatty hit his 10th home run of the season to give the Roadrunners (23-31) a 2-0 lead.
The WhiteWings (29-24) responded against Blake Parry (2-3) in the top of the second. With one out, Wilmer Pino singled and stole second. Edgar Trejo followed with an RBI ground-rule double to make it 2-1.
The Roadrunners got that run back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI-single by Derek Marshall that made it 3-1.
The WhiteWings closed within one on an RBI-double by Antonio DeJesus in the top of the fifth, but Beatty hit a two-out two-run double in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2.
Beatty was 2-for-3 with four RBI.
The Roadrunners loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, setting up a two-run double by Marhsall to make it 7-2.
Marshall went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The WhtieWings mounted a rally in the top of the seventh. With one out, Francisco Santana and DeJesus singled, with each moving into scoring position on an error. David Peralta followed with a two-run single to knock out Parry. One out later, Reece Cross served up Gerardo Avila's 11th home run of the season to bring the WhiteWings within 7-6.
DeJesus finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
Osiel Flores pushed the game out of reach with a two-out, three-run home run, his seventh of the season, in the seventh against Elvis Hernandez.
After the WhiteWings added a run in the eighth, Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game two of this four-game series on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Right-hander Eric Blackwell (4-2, 2.46) is expected to face right-hander Scott Wingo (3-3, 4.13).
