Lake County Fielders News Release
Yuma, AZ - The Lake County Fielders took on the Yuma Scorpions Tuesday night in the first game of a three city, eleven game road trip that will also take them to Calgary and Edmonton.
The Fielders (25-21) struck first in the game on a Franklyn Lopez 2 RBI triple in the 2nd inning which gave Lake County the early lead. Unfortunately, the lead wouldn ¬â¢t last as the Scorpions ¬â¢ bats came alive in the bottom of the inning tallying up 8 hits and scoring 7 runs.
Moving into the top of the 3rd the Fielders began to chip away at the Scorpions as John Dziomba reached on a leadoff single then stole second and was brought in on a Mark Samuelson fielder ¬â¢s choice. The Fielders defense held strong not giving up a run in the bottom of the inning as Jesus Gomez entered the game in relief of starter Ryan Gunderson.
After a walk to Alan Rick to begin the 4th inning, right fielder Chris Brown stepped up to the plate and smacked his first homerun in a Fielders uniform off Scorpions ¬â¢ starter David Cross to put the Fielders within 2 runs of tying the game. Those runs would be the last the Fielders would score in the game as the Scorpions went on to tack on 6 more runs, which included homeruns by both J.J. Muse and Jarod McDonald, to make the final score 13-5.
The Fielders will look to get back into the win column in game 2 of the four game series tonight in Yuma. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm local (9:35pm CT). You can listen to the game on 1220 AM WKRS or online at fieldersbaseball.com or wkrs.com.
