Two-Out Rally Nets Nine

The Calgary Vipers scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 10-5 victory over the Edmonton Capitals before 1795 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. With two outs in the first frame nine consecutive Snakes scored to post an early big lead. With the victory the Vipers have won eight straight games and move into first place in the North Division's second half at 8-1. Calgary's record overall is 31-21 on the Golden Baseball League season.

On the mound Reggie Rivard (2-0) was solid throwing six and two third innings for the win while allowing three earned runs on five hits and striking out seven.

Julio Ramirez led the Vipers at the plate reaching base five times with three hits including two doubles along with two hit by pitches.

Edmonton scored in the top of the first inning when Ryan Stevenson reached on a fielding error by second baseman Jorge Mejia and Cliff Brumbaugh hit a two-run homer for a 2-0 lead.

Calgary responded in the bottom of the frame as Guillermo Reyes walked, Julio Ramirez singled, Drew Miller collected a run batted in base hit, Caonabo Cosme walked to load the bases, Jorge Mejia drove in two with a base knock, Luis Taveras was intentionally walked to again fill the sacks, pitcher Reggie Rivard walked for a RBI, Jonny Kaplan doubled home two, Reyes knocked two in with a single, Brent Metheny reached with a hit, Ramirez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Miller was hit by a pitch for a RBI and a 9-2 advantage.

After three scoreless innings the Vipers added a run for double digits in the fifth when Kaplan singled, Metheny walked, and Ramirez cashed one with a double for a 10-2 lead.

The Capitals responded in the next half inning as Stevenson doubled and Brumbaugh hit his second two run shot of the game for a 10-4 score.

Brumbaugh was at it again in the eighth frame with a solo home run for his third big fly of the game and a 10-5 game.

Calgary continues this first-place showdown and four-game series with the Edmonton Capitals on Saturday July 24th and Sunday July 25th at 1:35 PM MDT along with Monday July 26th at 7:05 PM MDT for Paint the Park Pink weekend. On Saturday the Vipers will also host "Saskatchewan Shines Day at the Park".
