Caps Bounce Back After Beating

July 24, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB -- Less than 24 hours after they were lit up for 10 runs, the Edmonton Capitals bounced back and put up 10 of their own to crush the Calgary Vipers 10-1 on Saturday afternoon at Foothills Stadium.

The Vipers exploded for nine runs in the first inning of Friday night's contest between the provincial rivals, en route to a 10-5 victory. But it was the Caps whose bats were on fire the next day, as they belted out 14 hits to generate the double-digit runs, squaring up the series of six straight games between the teams.

Second baseman Matt Rogelstad, in his first game back in the lineup after serving a three-game suspension for being involved in a brawl with the Yuma Scorpions last Sunday, went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Right fielder Tom Collaro also had a huge day, driving in five runs with a homer and a double. Centre fielder Ryan Stevenson also chipped in with a pair of runs, hitting 3-for-6.

On the mound, starting pitcher Alex Francisco continued his all-star season by tossing seven innings and giving up just six hits for one run, while striking out three. He has a 6-0 record and a stingy 1.41 ERA on the Golden Baseball League season. Ryan Paul, who got credit for the win, and Evan White each pitched an inning to close the game.

The Caps and Vipers square off twice more in Calgary, Sunday at 1:35 p.m. and Monday at 7:05 p.m., before heading north to Edmonton for 7 p.m. games on Wednesday and Thursday at TELUS Field. The Caps are back in first in the North in the second half at 6-1, while the Vipers are 8-2.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
