
Toros Bats Ignite For 9-8 Comeback Win

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros offense erupted for a 9-8 come from behind win over the St. George RoadRunners Friday night.
The RoadRunners struck right from the beginning with two 1st inning runs off Tucson native Cody Walden. RF Yosvany Almario drilled an RBI double to gap in right and scored later in the frame after a Toros throwing error to take a 2-0 lead. St. George added another run to their lead in the 2nd inning after SS Nick Spears blasted a two out solo home run off the center field green monster.
The Toros began to build some momentum in the bottom of the second inning after SS Ryan Priddy crushed an RBI double off of the leftfield wall to drive in RF Francisco Plasencia. Tucson also got a run closer in the 3rd inning with and RBI single by Wally Backman Jr. to cut into the lead 3-2.
Tucson continued to fight back in the bottom of the 4th inning after Josh Womack's two RBI single on a line drive to left to pull ahead 4-3. The momentum began to shift for St. George in the top of the 6th inning when the RoadRunners countered with 4 runs to go on top 7-4. The RoadRunners added to their lead with an RBI single by LF Jermy Acey in the top of the 8th inning to go up 8-4.
With the Toros trailing 8-4 going into the bottom of the 8th, 2B Adam Courcha knocked a line drive down the third base line for an RBI double sparking what would turn into a decisive 5 run inning. Pinch hitter Darren Blakely followed with a 2 run bomb over the right field wall to pull the Toros within one 8-7. The Toros tied the game with an RBI single by Wally Backman Jr. and took back the lead after Lino Garcia scored on a E9 fielding error by St. George to seal the victory 9-8.
The Toros offense combined for 14 hits, 9 runs, and a home run. Lefty Cody Walden scattered 9 hits over 5 1/3 innings, with 6 runs (5 earned), 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Reliever Jesse Orosco Jr. took the mound in the bottom of 6th inning and allowed 1 earned run, 4 hits, 3 walks and 2 K's to earn his 3rd win. Emiliano Fruto picked up his 8th save of the season with a scoreless 9th.
