Orange County Flyers News Release
CHICO, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers overwhelmed the Chico Outlaws with a pair of big innings en route to a 15-2 win at Nettleton Stadium on Friday night. The Flyers scored seven in the fourth and eight in the eighth for their largest margin of victory on the season, defeating the league-leading Outlaws by 13 runs.
Trailing 2-0 after three dormant innings, the Flyers exploded for seven runs in the fourth, six of them off Yoshida. Jimmy Rohan singled to lead off the inning, and Sergio Pedroza tied the game with his seventh homerun of the season. Keith Ginter and David Harris followed with singles, and after an error advanced the runners, Tyler Keeble cashed them both for a 4-2 Flyers lead on a two-run single.
Pitcher Zach Cline got in on the action, with an RBI single to chase Yoshida from the game. Reliever Wayne Franklin came in to finish the inning, walking Steve Boggs and allowing a two-run single by Rohan for a 7-2 OC lead before getting out of the frame.
Yoshida allowed six runs on seven hits in 3 and 1/3 innings of work. She struck out a season-high two batters in her fifth start of the season but took the loss for the Outlaws.
Chico struck first on a two-run homerun by former Major Leaguer Mike Rose in the second inning. Cline responded to retire 14 of the next 17 batters he faced. The Flyers lefty finished the night striking out six Oultaws in six innings, giving up two runs and three hits for his first win with OC.
The Flyers put together a second big inning of the night, scoring eight in the eighth inning thanks for three Chico errors and a pair of bases loaded walks. Mike Koons, Bryan Harris and former Major Leaguer Cha-Seung Baek each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Flyers.
Orange County continues the three-game series on Saturday with Matt Durkin making the start for the Flyers against Chico's Mark McLemore. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
