Visalia, CA. - Yency Almonte was wonderful in the Modesto Nuts' 2-1 win against the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday night at Recreation Park.
The win evens the three-game series setting up a rubber game on Wednesday night.
Almonte (W, 7-8) worked seven innings and extended his California League lead in strikeouts with nine while walking two and allowing just one unearned run.
After the Rawhide (13-19; 59-43) scored first, the Nuts (13-19; 38-63) tied the game when Shane Hoelscher grounded into a double play to let Josh Fuentes score after he had reached on an error.
The deciding run came in the fifth. With two outs, Forrest Wall roped a double off the left field wall. He scored when Wes Rogers lined a single into right. Alex Young (L, 0-3) worked six innings in his start for the Rawhide. He allowed just two runs and only one was earned while striking out four and walking one.
Luis Niebla (S, 7/7) worked a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to solidify the Nuts' victory.
