With Blaze Stuck in Neutral, Giants Seek Sweep

July 27, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

There's no guarantee that a baseball team will win a game with eight hits. Unfortunately for the Blaze, the odds were even lower on Tuesday night.

Jason Forjet (W, 10-7) was stellar for seven innings, surrendering just one run on 3 hits as the Giants clipped the Blaze 2-1.

Limited to one run on five Monday evening, Bakersfield struggled again with the bats in Game 2 by generating three hits against the San Jose pitching staff.

With the win, San Jose pulls within five games of the North Division lead and they can get even closer to Bakersfield with a win on Wednesday to complete the sweep.

Dylan Davis continues his assault on the Cal League during his short time with the Giants. The right fielder punched his eighth homer of the month and ninth in just 26 games with the Giants as he touched up Osmer Morales in the fourth inning.

The Davis solo blast was the only highlight until the seventh inning for either team.

With Isaac Sanchez (L, 3-3) in the game and first base open, Sanchez elected to walk Davis to load the bags with two outs.

Jonah Arendado was up next, but his bat was not necessary.

Sanchez had a fastball get loose as it hit Arenado in the arm to bring home Cristian Paulino giving the Giants a 2-1 lead.

The hit batter was enough to push the Giants over the edge as Carlos Diaz and D.J. Snelten pitched two flawless innings for San Jose.

Game 3 is set for Wednesday afternoon at 12:30. David Gascon will have the call on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
