James, Jethawks Navigate Storm In Rubber Game

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Josh James rebounded after a long first frame to fan seven over five innings as the JetHawks beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 7-2, in the rubber game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at The Diamond.

James (8-3) allowed one run on two hits and had to make 34 pitches to get out of the first inning. He ended up striking out the side in the frame and went on to not allow another run over the next four innings. With the victory, James picked up his team-leading eighth of the season.

The JetHawks (56-46) improved their record to a season-high 10 games over .500 with the victory and moved 1.5 games ahead of Lake Elsinore in the second half standings.

Johnny Sewald started a two-run go-ahead rally in the fourth inning with a leadoff single. Osvaldo Duarte followed with his first of two hits on the game, a single that moved Sewald to third base. Marc Wik hit a sac-fly to tie the game, and Duarte came home on a wild pitch to give the JetHawks the lead.

Keach Ballard added to Lancaster's lead with an RBI-double in the fifth.

Storm (52-51) starter Brett Kennedy (4-7) allowed gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out eight.

Jamie Ritchie and Aaron Mizell hit back-to-back singles in the seventh and scored on a Sewald double.

Lancaster's final runs came on an Osvaldo Duarte two-run homer in the ninth inning. The long ball was his first in the Cal League.

Andrew Thome tossed the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.

The JetHawks head to Bakersfield to begin a four-game series on Thursday at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Rogelio Armenteros will start against Eddie Campbell. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
