Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Quakes routed the Inland Empire 66ers for a second straight game, winning their third consecutive overall, as Rancho prevailed by a final of 8-2 on Tuesday night at LoanMart Field.
Dodgers' rehabber Kike Hernandez had a two-hit game and scored a pair of runs in his second and final rehab appearance for the Quakes.
The Quakes pounded out 13 more hits on Tuesday night, giving them 48 over the current three-game winning streak. Edwin Rios lead the way with three knocks and a pair of RBIs, giving him 44 in just 41 games as a Quake.
Rancho jumped all over Inland Empire starter Jake Jewell in the first inning, sending eight men to the plate and taking a 4-0 advantage.
Rios singled to get the scoring started, as he brought home Hernandez for a 1-0 advantage. Joey Curletta extended his hitting streak to ten straight with an RBI hit, as he made it a 2-0 game. A sac fly from Johan Mieses and an RBI hit by Brandon Trinkwon capped the inning at 4-0.
The Quakes got another in the third, as Trinkwon knocked in another run with an RBI groundout, making it 5-0.
Inland Empire got their only runs of the night in the fourth, as Hutton Moyer took Quakes' starter Grant Holmes deep to center field, his eighth of the year to bring the 66ers to within three runs, at 5-2.
Rancho tallied the game's final three runs though. Rios struck for another RBI in the bottom of the fourth, as his double brought home Hernandez again, giving the Quakes a 6-2 lead and chasing Jewell (1-10). Garrett Kennedy doubled home a run in the fifth and Mieses singled home his second run of the game in the sixth, making it 8-2 and rounding out the scoring.
The home run was the only mistake Holmes (8-3) made all night, as he allowed just two runs on three hits over five frames.
Rancho's bullpen combined for four scoreless innings for a second straight game, as Luis De Paula, David Reid-Foley and Corey Copping allowed just one hits over four innings of work.
The Quakes (18-14, 60-52) are now just 2 1/2 games back in the South Division's second-half standings. Rancho will look for the series sweep on Wednesday morning, as they send Andrew Sopko (10-2) to the hill, opposite Inland Empire's Alex Klonowski (7-10) with a special start time of 10:35am.
