Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Brock Dykxhoorn retired the first nine batters he faced to set the tone for the JetHawks in a 12-4 drubbing of the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday night at The Diamond.
Dykxhoorn (7-3) allowed the first Storm runner to reach base when Edwin Moreno led off the fourth inning with an infield single. By that point, the JetHawks already led 6-0.
Lancaster (55-46, 20-11) jumped on Storm starter Zech Lemond (3-4) for five runs in the third inning. Osvaldo Duarte started the rally with a bunt single and eventually scored on a Drew Ferguson ground ball. Two batters later, Bryan Muniz singled home Ferguson to set the stage for Trent Woodward. The catcher blasted a three-run homer, his fourth in the Cal League, to make it a 5-0 lead.
Duarte led off the next inning with a triple and scored on a Ferguson sacrifice-fly to push the lead to six.
Dykxhoorn ran into a little trouble in the bottom of the fourth. Moreno's leadoff infield single and two walks loaded the bases with nobody out. But the right-hander limited the damage to a Franmil Reyes sac-fly and the JetHawks led, 6-1.
Lancaster added another five runs in the sixth inning. Johnny Sewald, Ferguson, Muniz and Woodward all collected RBI-singles in the frame.
The Storm (52-50, 20-12) scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Dykxhoorn's ended up allowed four runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings. He struck out three and walked three.
Sewald added a solo home run in the seventh inning for the game's final run.
With the win, Lancaster moved 0.5 games ahead of Lake Elsinore for first place in the second half standings. The two clubs play the rubber game of their three-game series on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Lake Elsinore. Josh James (7-3) makes the start for the JetHawks against Brett Kennedy (4-6).
