Colorado Mammoth News Release

Denver, Colo. – Colorado Mammoth fans attending the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game at Pepsi Center later this month will have plenty of their favorite players to root for.

Defensemen Jay Jalbert and Jamie Hanford were named to the Western Division All-Star team as reserves Tuesday, giving the Mammoth a total of five players in the midseason exhibition, the most of any Western teams. Jalbert and Hanford were among 12 reserves added to fill out the 18-player roster a day after Gavin Prout, Gary Gait and Gee Nash were selected as starters for the game.

Jalbert, a versatile player who is effective on both ends of the floor, is Colorado's fourth-leading scorer with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists. The Huntington, N.Y., native is third on the team with 51 loose balls.

Hanford, the league's top faceoff man last season, has won 106-of-179 faceoffs in 2004. His .592 winning percentage is good for second best among NLL faceoff specialists this season. Hanford, who hails from Darien, Conn., is also second on the team and third in the league with 55 loose balls and has seen his role in key defensive situations increase because of his inspired play.

The Western Division reserve forwards are Ted Dowling and Kaleb Toth of the Calgary Roughnecks, Mike Law – a former Regis High School and University of Denver standout – and Casey Powell of the Anaheim Storm, Pat Maddalena of the Arizona Sting, Josh Sanderson of the San Jose Stealth, and Dan Stroup of the Vancouver Ravens. Reserve defensemen joining Jalbert and Hanford are Rob Kirkby of Calgary and San Jose's Cam Woods. Arizona goaltender Mike Miron will back up Nash in the All-Star Game.

The Eastern Division reserves will be announced on Wednesday.

The 2004 NLL All-Star Game will be played at 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 at Pepsi Center, home of the Colorado Mammoth. The game will be preceded by the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown between the University of Colorado and Colorado State at 11:30 a.m., and the All-Star Skills Competition at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Pepsi Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
