Lancaster Stormers News Release
For two innings on Saturday evening, it seemed that nobody could make a play.
Bridgeport used an assortment of eight hits and five Lancaster errors during that span to produce eight runs en route to a 9-2 victory over the Barnstormers Saturday evening at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Even with the loss, the Barnstormers maintained a 4 1/2 game lead over the York Revolution in the Freedom Division.
Mark Brackman (2-3) faced just one batter over the minimum through the first three innings, keeping the Barnstormers in a scoreless tie. He fell behind Eddie Rogers at 3-1 before yielding a single to the Bluefish shortstop. Prentice Redman picked up a walk, and Brock Peterson produced the first run of the evening with a singled flared into left center. Luis Lopez drilled a double into the left field corner, scoring Redman for a 2-0 lead.
That's when the game got really ugly. Elliott Ayala's chopper toward the middle took a wicked hop on second baseman Kody Kirkland and bounced into center for an RBI base hit. With Ayala in motion, James Simmons hit a quick one-hop ground ball back to the mound. Brackman wheeled to get a force play and fired the ball into center field as Peterson scored the fourth run. Angel Flores went down looking for the first out, but Joe Poletsky's potential double play grounder went through Kirkland for an error as Ayala scored the fifth run. Lancaster's third error, a bad throw by first baseman Emerson Frostad, came after he made a leaping grab of Kennard Jones' line drive for the second out. Rogers lined to center to end the inning.
The bleeding continued in the fifth. Prentice Redman lined a single into left. One out later, Lopez rolled a single into right, and Fehlandt Lentini's throw back to the infield rolled to the tarp down the left field line, advancing both runners a base. With the infield pulled to the edge of the grass, Ayala hit a pop fly that dropped on the infield dirt behind Kirkland for another RBI single. Simmons' grounder to third was bobbled by Terry Tiffee as he went to make a throw as the Bluefish went up, 7-0. A single to the hole at shortstop and a fielder's choice allowed another run to score.
Paul Oseguera (4-2) benefitted from the support. The left-hander allowed only three singles over seven innings, walking one and striking out six. Lancaster managed two runs on five hits over the final two innings against the Bridgeport bullpen.
Lancaster and Bridgeport wrap up the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05. The Barnstormers send John Halama (4-3) to the mound against right-hander Rayner Diaz (1-5). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com; and the I Heart Radio cell phone app.
