York Revolution News Release

One run was enough in the first two games of their weekend series at Somerset, but not on Saturday night as the York Revolution fell 3-1 to the Patriots in front of 6,484 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs will go for the series win on Sunday afternoon before returning home to open a seven-game homestand at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday night.

Revs starter Chris Waters made his debut with two scoreless innings, followed by reliever Omar Javier who kept the game scoreless through four, running York's club record scoreless streak to 33 consecutive innings, nine more than the previous mark. But Somerset scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, ending the streak, and helping them end York's four-game winning streak in the process.

Jonny Tucker's RBI groundout brought home the game's first run, while Jeff Nettles added a sacrifice fly, and Yunesky Sanchez ripped an RBI double to left, as the Patriots broke out of their offensive funk in a big way.

It was enough for Somerset starter Roy Merritt (4-1) who allowed just one hit over six shutout innings for the win before exiting with cramps at the start of the seventh.

Andres Perez lined a solo homer to left in the ninth to break up the shutout, but it was the only run York could manage.

The Revs were held to three hits, and have totaled just 10 hits and three runs through the first three games of the series. They had entered the series batting .304 while averaging 6.8 runs per game over their previous 17 contests, climbing to second in the league in total runs scored.

The Revs were held without a hit through the first 5.1 innings for the second time in three nights, matching the second longest they had gone to start a game without a hit in team history.

Javier (0-5) took the loss, charged with three runs in four innings of relief.

Dumas Garcia and Stephen Penney each tossed scoreless frames for York in the seventh and eighth innings.

It was York's first loss of the season vs. Somerset, dropping to 5-1 in the head-to-head series. The Revs fall back to the .500 mark at 24-24, but stay within 4.5 games of first place Lancaster who also lost on Saturday night. York's season-best four-game road winning streak is snapped.

The Revs will send spot starter James Houser (1-0, 5.12) to the mound on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. against Somerset righty Justin Cassel (1-5, 3.59). Coverage begins at 12:30 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
