Manchester, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Reading Royals, have signed former ECHL forwards Leon Hayward and goalie Adam Hauser to one-year American Hockey League contracts, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. Hauser, 23, made his AHL debut with the Providence Bruins this past season with his lone start taking place in Manchester against the Monarchs. The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder from Bovey, Minnesota finished with 33 saves as the Bruins and the Monarchs skated to a 3-3 tie at the Verizon Wireless Arena on April 5. Hauser's rookie season also included 34 appearances with the Jackson Bandits (ECHL) where he posted a 20-9-4 record, a 2.46 goals-against-average, a .916 save-percentage and five shutouts. Before turning pro, he enjoyed a record-setting four-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota (1998-02), backstopping the Gophers to the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship in April of 2002. In the championship game he made 42 saves, including five in overtime, as the Gophers edged the University of Maine 4-3. Hauser finished the 2001-02 season with a 23-6-4 record, a 2.40 goals-against-average, a .913 save percentage and one shutout.
