Twins Place Punto on DL, Option Blackburn, Recall Plouffe

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed infielder Nick Punto on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 29) with a strained left hamstring. Punto suffered the injury in the eighth inning of Sunday's game at Kansas City.

To replace Punto on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled infielder Trevor Plouffe from Triple-A Rochester. In 90 games with the Red Wings this season, Plouffe batted .318 (93-for-359) with 20 doubles, four triples, 15 home runs and 48 rbi. He has appeared in seven games during two stints with the Twins in 2010, going 3-for-23 (.130) with one double and three rbi.

To clear a roster spot for Matt Capps, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Blackburn to Triple-A Rochester. In 19 appearances (18 starts) for the Twins this season, Blackburn is 7-7, 6.66 (104.0 ip, 77 er) with 27 walks and 35 strikeouts.
