Turnover Proves Costly for Ice Flyers

Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
It was a close game in which both teams had really excellent scoring opportunities and that's why it was so tough to lose the way the Ice Flyers did.
It didn't take long for the Cottonmouth's physical style to cause tempers to flair as almost 6 minutes in Dan Buccella took on Columbus' Mitch Wall in a fight. Each team had had a few chances but to no avail until Matt Robertson put the Ice Flyers up 1-0 on a shorthanded goal. Ryan Hohl took a pass from Donnie Harris and skated down the right wing boards. When his shooting lane was blocked by a Columbus defender sprawled on the ice he passed the puck to Robertson who fired it behind the Cottonmouth's Ian Vigier at the 8:31 mark of the first. Levi Lind would tie the game up at 1 with 2:16 left in the first.
Columbus got their first lead of the game not too long into the second as Derek Pallardy scored just 1:33 into the second. The Ice Flyers special teams continued to do their part as Matt Robertson scored a power play goal when he fired a sharp angle shot from the right side of the net to tie the game at 2 with 5:10 left in the second. Chris Wilson and Tyler Soehner picked up the assists.
The game continued to be a back-and-forth battle in the early going of the third and both goalies were forced to make some really tough saves. Unfortunately a great game doesn't always end in a great way. The Ice Flyers had a run in with some bad luck and a chance turnover immediately came back to bite them as Columbus' John Sullivan grabbed the puck and put it behind Corey Milan for an unassisted goal.
Milan stopped 26 of the 29 shots Columbus threw on net but ended up with the loss. Matt Robertson's 2 goal performance was good enough to earn him being named the 2nd star of the night.
The Ice Flyers' will be right back on the grind tomorrow night as the Ice Flyers host the Mississippi RiverKings on Race Night tomorrow. Fans are encouraged to donate pet supplies for pets of the homeless. The donations will be given to the EscaRosa Coalition for the Homeless and fans who make donations will receive a raffle ticket for an Ice Flyers jersey.
