The Mississippi Surge suffered its second straight 3-2 loss, surrendering the winning goal with just 1:24 left in the third period Friday night in Louisiana against the IceGators.
It won't be a long wait for a chance at revenge however for the Surge, as the same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 at the Coast Coliseum to start a big weekend of Surge hockey. After Saturday's game, the Surge will host its third annual Pink in the Rink fundraiser Sunday at 3:05.
Shawn Skelly had the game's first goal, scoring at 13:19 of the first period. It was the second straight game Skelly notched the game's first goal. The Surge strectched its lead to 2-0 on a second period goal by defenseman James Isaacs, two and a half minutes into the second stanza.
Lousiana got on the scoreboard when Jordan Oye was able to beat Mississippi goaltender Kiefer Smiley at 13:04 of the second period. The Surge held a 2-1 lead going into the third period.
Eric Tallent scored the equalizer for Lousiana, knotting the game with 8:20 left to play. The IceGators were able to complete their comeback when Shawn McNeil scored the backbreaking goal at 18:36 of the third period. The Surge outshot Louisiana 35-33.
Saturday's game is a Family Four Pack Night with four tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks, and a tub of popcorn available for only $60. Then on Sunday, following the game, the Surge's special game worn pink jerseys will be auctioned at Coast Nightclub and Restaurant inside Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. Players are expected to arrive there around 6:30 p.m., following the game with bidding expected to start around 7 p.m. Appetizers and beverages will be complimentary, courtesy of Beau Rivage.
