Game Preview - Ice Flyers Vs. Columbus Cottonmouths

After a few games where the Ice Flyers struggled, they're now riding a 2-game win streak with wins last week over their I-10 rivals, the Louisiana IceGators and Mississippi Surge. Columbus comes into tonight's game after a 7-4 win in Huntsville on Tuesday. The last time the Ice Flyers and the Snakes met was before Christmas as the Ice Flyers won 5-1 in the Hangar on December 23rd. That night the Ice Flyers had no trouble scoring with 5 goals from 5 different players. Pensacola holds the edge in the season having won 4 of the 6 matchups so far this season.

The Ice Flyers currently sit 4th in the SPHL standing with 47 points, one ahead of Louisiana. Columbus in 2nd in league with 57 points and has already locked up a spot in the playoffs. The Ice Flyers home record stands at 12-7-0 while the Cottonmouths area 11-6-3 on the road.

Team Scope:

PENSACOLA - The Ice Flyers are riding a 2-game win streak that has seen them put up 10 goals in those two games while only allowing 5. Corey Milan's overall record now stands at 9-10-3 with a 3.41 goals against average and a .875 save percentage; his record with the Ice Flyers stands at 5-4-1, a 2.76 GAA, and a 0.897 SV%. Recent addition Jesse Kallechy is now Milan's backup. He came to Pensacola from the Knoxville Ice Bears with a 6-8-2 record, a 3.55 GAA, as well as a 0.894 SV%. Chris Wilson and Jordan Chong share the team lead in scoring with 42 points. Wilson leads the team with 24 goals while Chong holds the team lead with 26 assists.

The Ice Flyers' power play is now 3rd best in the league at 18.27%. The Flyers have netted 36 power play goals while only giving up 2 shorthanded goals. Pensacola's penalty kill is now in the middle of the pack at 5th in the league with a success rate of 82.21%. Pensacola has given up 29 power play goals against while also managing to score 5 shorthanded goals.

The Ice Flyers will be back in the Hangar tomorrow night to take on the Mississippi RiverKings before heading to Louisiana on Sunday for an afternoon game.

COLUMBUS - Tuesday's 7-4 win over Huntsville was the best offensive output for Columbus all season. Between the pipes the Cottonmouths are led by longtime Cottonmouth Ian Vigier and a second year member in Andrew Loewen. Vigier had a bit of a rough start to the year but now has a record of 15-5-3 to go with a 2.58 GAA and a 0.905 SV%. Loewen is 11-8-2 with a 2.86 GAA and a 0.901 SV%. Columbus' leading scorer is Jordan Braid who has 38 points. Braid is the team's leader in goals with 18 while defenseman Bret Tyler's 30 assists give him the lead in that category.

The Snakes' power play is 2nd best in the SPHL at 19.51%, scoring 40 power play goals while still allowing 5 shorthanded goals. Their penalty kill is tops in the league at 88.68% with only 24 power play goals against. The Cottonmouths have also managed to score an impressive 7 shorthanded goals.

After tonight's game, Columbus is off for the next week with their next game being Friday March 2nd when they host their cross state rivals the 1st place Augusta RiverHawks.
