Tri-City Storm News Release
Sioux Falls, Sd. - Nico Sturm scored for the Tri-City Storm, but Parker Tuomie scored an overtime winner at the 3:11 mark of overtime, dropping the Storm, 2-1. Tri-City picked up its 13th point of the year by forcing overtime.
Tuomie received a centering pass from Joe Rutkowki after an initial save by Matt Greenfield. Collin Peters earned the secondary assist on the goal.
The match kicked off a stretch of three straight games against the Herd. Next weekend, Tri-City is home for two straight games against Sioux Falls.
For the majority of the game, the Storm's Greenfield and the Stampede's Stefanos Lekkas waged battle in a goaltender duel; Greenfield made 24 saves, while Lekkas got the win with 27 saves.
Tri-City yielded the first goal of the game at the 14:10 mark of the first. Daniel Warpecha banged a one-time shot past Greenfield off a face-off win by Csanad Erdely.
From that point on, Greenfield stopped the Stampede until overtime.
At the end of the first, Tri-City trailed, 11-8, in shots. After killing off a carryover Herd power play at the beginning of the second, the Storm's offense began to click.
Sturm evened the game at 1 on the power play nine minutes into the second, the center's fifth of the season, with an assist to Carson Meyer.
The play developed from the left goal line, where Meyer was poke checked by the goalie Lekkas. The puck hopped to Sturm, who stashed from the left doorstep.
The Storm has scored seven power-play goals in the last four games. Tri-City finished 1-for-4 on the man up and killed off all four Stampede power plays.
In the third, the Storm outshot the Herd, 11-4, taking a 28-23 advantage into four-on-four overtime.
In the extra session, Tuomie scored his league-best 14th of the season.
The Storm is back home on November 20 and 21, with games against the Stampede.
