Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (6-6-0) look to avoid falling under the .500 mark as they host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (7-5-1) on Saturday night at the Alliant Energy Center.
Coverage of the teams' second meeting this season begins at 7 p.m. on 106.7 FM/1670 AM, The Zone. Cedar Rapids won the first matchup of the season, 5-1, at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Oct. 3.
That night, Cedar Rapids raced out to a 3-1 first period lead after Ryan Lohin opened the scoring for the Capitols. The RoughRiders got contributions from 11 different players en route to the win. Ryan Edquist came on in relief for Madison and kept the Capitols in shouting distance, making 23 saves in just over 51 minutes of action.
Both the Capitols and RoughRiders have struggled of late, as Cedar Rapids has dropped each of their last two games, scoring just two goals in 120 minutes on home ice against Tri-City and Green Bay. The Capitols dropped their third straight for the first time this season in a 6-3 loss in Dubuque on Friday night.
In the loss, Sam McCormick and Guillaume Leclerc each improved their team-best goal totals to six, while Haralds Egle continued to pile up assists, generating two more to give him a season total of 11.
Special teams could play a major role on this night, as Cedar Rapids tallied twice on the power play against Madison on Oct. 3. The Capitols have allowed multiple power play goals in two of their last three games, but the RoughRiders have yet to convert a power play chance away from home through four games, going 0-for-11. The Capitols' power play, meanwhile, which started the season a red-hot 7-of-19, has scuffled since Oct. 16, going 0 for its last 20.
The Capitols have a quick turnaround following tonight's tilt, as they will travel to Green Bay for its first trip inside the Resch Center to take on the Green Bay Gamblers on Tuesday night. The Capitols will then return home for a rematch with Cedar Rapids on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Friday's game will be the Capitols' second annual Stuff the Bus drive. Fans who donate non-perishable food items or household supplies to the River Food Pantry will receive a ticket to a future Capitols game.
Tickets to all upcoming Capitols home games can be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS or by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. A full promotional schedule can also be seen on the Capitols' web page under the Tickets tab.
