Tulsa Blanks Travs 5-0 On Jimenez Three-Hitter

Drillers Stadium, Tulsa, OK - RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (7-2) threw the first nine-inning shutout of his pro career as the Tulsa Drillers (37-24) handed the Arkansas Travelers (21-39) a 5-0 loss. In beating the Travs for the third time in 2006, Jimenez allowed just three singles and a walk while striking out 10. Only one Traveler advanced as far as third base and Jimenez retired the last ten batters. Tulsa C Chris Ianetta, one of three Drillers with three hits, doubled twice, hit a solo home run (9) and scored three runs. Seth Smith and Joe Koshansky each collected three singles with Koshansky driving in two runs. Arkansas RHP Nick Green (1-1) took the loss in a 5.2 inning start that saw him allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The Travs and Drillers split the four-game series with Tulsa winning the last two games. Travs SS Brandon Wood was 0-for-3 to end his 13-game hitting streak.

The Drillers got started in the second inning when Ianetta hit a leadoff double to right field. Ianetta held at third base on a single by Koshansky and scored when Jordan Czarniecki lofted a sacrifice fly to center for a 1-0 Tulsa lead.

Leading off the fourth inning, Ianetta hit a home run just over the left-field wall for a 2-0 lead. Czarniecki tripled to center with one out and scored when Jud Thigpen beat Green to first base for an infield single and a 3-0 Tulsa lead.

Ianetta doubled to left with one out in the sixth inning and scored on another single by Koshansky for a 4-0 lead.

Arkansas RHP Michel Simards replaced Green with two outs in the sixth inning and pitched a shutout seventh. Tulsa 3B Ian Stewart hit a leadoff double in the eighth inning and scored when Koshansky hit his third single.

Jimenez walked Aaron Peel on four pitches to start the game, but would not issue another walk. He had two double plays turned behind him and set down 12 batters in a row from the second inning through the sixth. Jimenez is 3-0 in three starts against the Travs working 21 innings and allowed just one earned run on seven hits and 31 strikeouts.

The time of game was 2:15 and the paid attendance was 7,019.

The Travs and Drillers finish the four-game series on Friday night. The Travs have RHP Nick Green (1-0, 3.86 ERA) pitching against Tulsa RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (6-2, 3.38 ERA). First pitch at Drillers Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m.
