Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

(Corpus Christi, Texas) - The Hooks continued their dominant ways against the Midland RockHounds Friday night, winning their tenth straight against the RockHounds and sweeping the series with a 9-2 win.

Third baseman Mark Saccomanno, who hit his second and third home runs of the year, was the offensive star for the Hooks going two-for-four with four RBI's two runs scored. Saccomanno hit a first inning, three-run blast off of RockHounds' starter David Bradley (3-6,4.23) in the first to cap off a seven-run first. Sacomanno hit the game's second homer to lead off the fifth.

The seven-run first tied a season high for runs in an inning for the Hooks. The inning included six base hits, including doubles by shortstop Ben Zobrist and second baseman Jonny Ash. However, only one of the innings seven runs were earned due to a one-out error by RockHounds third baseman Vasilli Spanos who failed to capitalize on a Hunter Pence ground ball and opened the flood gates for the Hooks.

Hooks' starter Josh Miller (7-5, 3.91) ran into trouble in the first when he surrendered two runs off of three hits and hit batsman. Entering the second with a 7-2 lead, Miller calmed down and shutout the RockHounds for five straight innings before giving way to the Hooks' bullpen, who kept the RockHounds scoreless for the games final three frames.

The Hooks now sit three-and-a-half games ahead of the Frisco RoughRiders heading into this weekend's five-game series against San Antonio. Juan Gutierrez (5-3, 3.57) will get the start for the Hooks and will take on San Antonio's Adam Pettyjohn (1-3, 1.69) for the 7:05 pm start. Tomorrow night, Jeff Bagwell Figurines will be handed out to the first 2,500 fans. Gates open at 5:30.
