Tucson Padres News Release

Bobby Kielty hit a game-ending home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to conclude one of the most exciting Tucson Padres games of the season. Kielty celebrated his 35th birthday by hitting a solo home run to left field with one out against New Orleans reliever Darin Downs to give the Padres a 3-2 win and their third straight victory.

Neither team scored in Friday's game until the eighth inning, when New Orleans slugger Chris Aguila hit a two-out RBI single. The Zephyrs added a run in the ninth, so the Padres needed two in the the bottom of the ninth to tie. After the first two Padres reached base in the bottom of the ninth, Jose Ceda got within one out of his 25th save. Steve Tolleson dropped an RBI single into right with two outs, out of the reach of Aguila's dive. Tolleson's single advanced Drew Macias to third, who then scored when Eric Patterson's ground ball was misplayed by New Orleans first baseman Mike Cervenak one batter later. The Padres two runs with two outs forced extra innings, where Kielty's home run won it.

The T-Pads have now won three consecutive games and will try for their fourth series sweep of the season in Saturday's game against the Zephyrs. The two teams combined for seven consecutive scoreless innings on Wednesday also, a rarity at hitter-friendly Kino Stadium. Tucson starter Samuel Deduno pitched six scoreless innings Friday.
