Round Rock Express News Release
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight's game that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando on the Major League Paternity Leave List, effective today. To take his place on the active roster, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Darren O'Day (#56) from Triple-A Round Rock.
Ogando has traveled to the Dominican Republic during his leave, but is expected to return for his scheduled start on Tuesday against Seattle. A player can be on the Paternity Leave List for a maximum of 72 hours, meaning Ogando would return to the active roster on or before Tuesday's contest.
Ogando joins Colby Lewis (April 15-17) and Ian Kinsler (June 8-10) as Rangers to be placed on the new Paternity Leave List in 2011.
O'Day, 28, was on the Rangers' Opening Day roster and spent over two months on the disabled list from April 27-July 1 for surgery to repair a partial tear of the labrum in his left hip. He is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA (5 ER/10.2 IP) in 11 relief appearances for Texas this season, and allowed 3 runs over 3 games and 3.1 innings, all on solo home runs, after returning from the disabled list. He was optioned to Round Rock on July 14 and has compiled a 2.79 ERA (3 ER/9.2 IP) over 8 relief outings with the Express. O'Day last pitched on Tuesday at Nashville (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R-ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, 24 pitches/15 strikes). His last major league outing was July 6 vs. Baltimore.
