February 8, 2024 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release
The Tucson Sugar Skulls have signed a pair of defensive backs in Kyriq McDonald and Rogria Lewis for the 2024 IFL Season.
Kyriq McDonald - DB, 6'0, 200 (Missouri State/University of Alabama)
Kyriq McDonald is in his rookie season with the Sugar Skulls and the IFL.
McDonald played collegiately at Missouri State, where he was a highly decorated three-year starter as a safety for the Bears. He was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and team co-captain at MSU, logging 145 total tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, three interceptions, and 18 passes defended.
A transfer from the University of Cincinnati, McDonald played for the Bearcats in two games against UCLA and Ohio State in 2019 as a redshirt sophomore.
McDonald began his college career under head coach Nick Saban at the storied national powerhouse University of Alabama. As a redshirt freshman, he played in five games and registered 7 tackles (4 solo) in the Crimson Tide's 2018 SEC Championship season.
A native of Madison, Ala., McDonald was a four-star recruit from James Clemens High School in Huntsville, Ala.
Rogria Lewis - DB, 6'0, 190 (University of Alabama)
Rogria Lewis joins the Sugar Skulls for his rookie season in the IFL.
Lewis has played overseas for the past two seasons, with the Prague Lions of the European League of Football (2023) and the Znojmo Knights of the Austrian Football League (2022).
A former walk-on at the University of Alabama, Lewis earned a scholarship during fall camp of his senior season in 2018. He played 11 games that year, helping the Crimson Tide to a No. 2 national ranking and a 14-1 record.
Lewis made his name on special teams at Alabama, twice being selected by the UA coaches as special teams players of the week as a senior, after stellar performances vs. Mississippi State and The Citadel.
After helping Alabama win the 2018 SEC Championship, Lewis contributed a tackle in the Orange Bowl victory over Oklahoma and also saw time in that season's National Championship Game vs. Clemson.
A native of Birmingham, A.L., Lewis earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama in 2019.
