Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississsauga, ON - Mississauga hosted the Hamilton Bulldogs this morning for their fourth annual Enersource School Day Game at the Hershey Centre. This is the Trout's third game of their six-game home stand that began on Friday with a 7-4 loss to the Windsor Spitfires, followed by a 6-0 blowout of the Sudbury Wolves Sunday afternoon. This was the third meeting between the two teams this year, with the Steelheads coming out on top in the previous two. Mississauga defeated the Bulldogs at home 2-0 on October 30th and 4-3 in Hamilton at the FirstOntario Centre on November 4th.

The Steelheads took the early lead as Daniel De Sousa would pinch in from the point to receive a pass from Nathan Bastian and chip it over goaltender Charlie Graham at 5:51 to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Ryan McLeod would record the other assist on De Sousa's goal. Just 50 seconds after the De Sousa goal, Thomas Lattavo would bury his third of the season by Graham to give Mississauga an early 2-0 lead. Everett Clark and Jason Smith drew assists on Lattavo's marker. Later in the frame, Nathan Bastian would extend the Steelheads' lead as he and Mikey McLeod conducted a beautiful play that saw three passes between the two before Bastian put the puck in the back of the net to give the Trout a 3-0 lead. Alexander Nylander drew the other assist on the goal. Mississauga closed out the first with a 3-0 lead for the second consecutive game. Shots in the period were 6-5 in favour of the Steelheads.

The second period saw the Bulldogs looking to spark a comeback and tie the game up. Hamilton would capitalize on an opportunity early in the second as Joseph Mizzi would net his first of the season to cut the Steelheads lead to 3-1. The Steelheads couldn't get much generated in the second as the team took four minor penalties and a double minor that limited time their time in the Hamilton zone. After allowing the goal, Jack Flinn was great as he stopped 11 of 12 shots in the period as the Steelheads held a two goal lead heading into the final frame. Shots in the period were 12-5 Bulldogs, 17-11 Bulldogs total.

The third period saw a fast paced start as both teams knew the next goal would be critical for either team. After each team had a flurry of great scoring chances, it was the Steelheads that would take advantage of their opportunity as Ryan McLeod would score his first career OHL goal after a Nicolas Hague shot hit the young forward in front of the net and trickled through the legs of Charlie Graham to give the Trout a 4-1 lead. Everett Clark would record his second assist of the game on McLeod's goal. Minutes later, after Clark was sent to the sin bin for hooking, Alexander Nylander would finish off the shorthanded rush after another marvellous pass by Nathan Bastian to give the Steelheads a 5-1 lead. The tally was Mississauga's sixth shorthanded goal of the second, placing them second in that category, trailing only North Bay, who has accumulated 9 on the year. Jack Flinn would shut the door the rest of the way as the Steelheads would prevail by a final score of 5-1. Shots in the period were split 7-7, 24-18 Bulldogs for the game.

Nathan Bastian (G, 2A), Everett Clark (2A), Ryan McLeod (G, A) and Alexander Nylander (G, A) all had multi-point games. Nylander now has 31 points on the year which is first amongst rookies and sits in sixth place in league scoring, 9 points back of league leader, Alex DeBrincat of Erie. Jack Flinn stopped 23 of 24 shots for his 11th win of the season, which is tied for third with Kitchener's Luke Opilka and London's Tyler Parsons.

Mississauga will continue their home stand this weekend as they square off against North Bay Friday night before they invite the London Knights to the Hershey Centre Sunday afternoon for the team's only visit to Mississauga this season.
