Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
ROME, GA - Jiandido Tromp hit two three-run home runs and tied a franchise record with seven RBIs to lead the BlueClaws to a 13-3 win over Rome on Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium.
It was the fourth multi-home run game of Tromp's career and his seven RBIs were a career high and tied the BlueClaws single-game franchise record (Tromp is the third to drive in seven in a game and first since Michael Durant in 2008).
The BlueClaws (14-10/47-45) improved to 4-2 on their seven game trip and have taken two of the first three games from Rome (11-12/42-51). Their 13 runs were a new season high and their 10-run margin of victory was their largest since August 8, 2014 in a win over Delmarva (11-1).
Trailing 2-0, Lakewood got on the board on the first of two Damek Tomscha RBI singles in the fourth before Tromp launched the first of his two home runs.
Rome starter Oriel Caciedo came out after allowing four runs in four inning and gave way to Francisco Gonzalez, who surrendered six runs in the fifth - two on a double by Kyle Martin, an RBI single to Tomscha, and Tromp's second three-run home run of the game.
Meanwhile, BlueClaws starter Will Morris allowed three runs over a career long seven innings to improve to 2-0. Since returning to Lakewood, Morris has allowed three runs over 17 innings in three appearances.
Martin's two-run double extended his hitting streak to nine games, over which he is 17-35. Cord Sandberg added four hits for Lakewood, his second four-hit game of the year. Damek Tomscha and Drew Stankiewicz had three hits apiece for the BlueClaws in victory.
The series with Rome concludes on Monday night. RHP Tyler Viza (4-5) starts for Lakewood against RHP Touki Touissant (2-1).
