Triple-A All-Star Game TV Crew Announced

(Allentown, Pa.) - A pair with strong local ties - Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy and former Phillie and current MLB Network announcer Mitch Williams - comprise the TV broadcast team for the 23rd annual Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network on Wednesday, July 14 at 7 p.m., the MLB Network announced today.

"When MLB Network hit the air last year they made a tremendous splash with baseball fans near and far," said International League President Randy Mobley." "To now have the opportunity to showcase Triple-A Baseball's All-Star Game on the channel where baseball fans are going for their up to the minute baseball information is a valuable addition to what has become a national showcase event for not only Triple-A Baseball, but for all of Minor League Baseball. The live telecast of the Triple-A All-Star Game as well as several regular season games on MLB Network is a significant step forward as we continue to spread the word about family entertainment at affordable prices in beautiful Minor League ballparks throughout the country."

Tom McCarthy is in the midst of the third year of his second stint with the Phillies doing television play-by-play. During his first tour of duty with the club he spent five seasons (2001-05) as the host of the pre- and post-game radio shows, while also doing radio play-by-play. He spent the 2006-07 seasons as a radio broadcaster with the New York Mets on WFAN before returning to the Phillies in November of 2007.

In 2000, Tom earned a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for his work on cable station CN8 and is a two-time winner (2002 & 2004) of the Achievement in Radio Award for Best Local Sports Coverage. In January of 2007, he received the Radio/TV Excellence Award from the New Jersey Sportswriters Association.

A graduate of the College of New Jersey (BA degree in communications), McCarthy also spent six seasons broadcasting games for the Double-A Trenton Thunder, culminating in 1999.

Mitch Williams, an 11-year Major League veteran, is an MLB Network analyst, regularly appearing on MLB Tonight, Hot Stove, Diamond Demo and MLB Network's special event coverage. In addition to MLB Network, Mitch hosts a weekly radio show, "Remember When" on Sirius/XM as well as a one-hour pre-game radio show, "The Wild Pitch," before Phillies games on 1210-WPHT.

Before joining MLB Network, Williams was a post-game analyst on Comcast Sportsnet's Phillies Post Game Live as well as a contributor to TBS' baseball coverage. Mitch also served as a weekly contributor and baseball expert on 610-WIP's Angelo Cataldi morning show in Philadelphia.

Williams acquired the nickname "Wild Thing" at the beginning of his career while pitching with the Chicago Cubs due to his unorthodox pitching delivery. During his Major League career, Mitch earned 192 saves and posted a 3.65 ERA in his 11 Major League seasons with the Rangers (1986-88), Cubs (1989-90), Phillies (1991-93), Astros (1994), Angels (1995) and Royals (1997). He was a member of the 1989 National League All-Star team as well as the 1993 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

The Triple-A All-Star Game -- played annually since 1988 -- features the premier players of all 30 Major League team's top affiliates as the International League and the Pacific Coast League All-Stars square off in a head-to-head contest. Among the other public events scheduled are Pigapalooza Fan Fest -- which will feature fan autograph sessions and baseball-themed attractions, a Home Run Derby and several other ballpark and community events.

An extremely limited number of Capital BlueCross Lawn ticket packages for the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game are still available - all other ticket packages are sold out. The Capital BlueCross Lawn ticket package includes a Lawn ticket to the Triple-A All-Star Game along with admission to "Pigapalooza" Fan Fest. The Capital Blue Cross Lawn ticket package does not include a ticket to the 2010 Triple-A Home Run Derby. Each of these packages is priced at $21.
