Trio of Argos named CFL All-Stars

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts' coaching staff believes that in order to win, the team must be successful in all three phases of the game - offence, defence and special teams. Now, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club is thrilled to congratulate one player from each phase of the game for being named 2006 CFL All-Stars. WR Arland Bruce lll on offence, CB Byron Parker on defence and P Noel Prefontaine on special teams were selected by members of the Football Reporters of Canada to the Canadian Football League's All-Star squad today.

After a career year, Arland Bruce lll earned his first ever CFL All-Star vote. Undoubtedly one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the league, the elusive receiver finished second in the CFL with 1,370 yards on 77 receptions and 11 touchdowns, good for his second consecutive 1,000 yard season. A fan favourite who captures everyone's imagination, this versatile playmaker was named the Argonauts' Most Outstanding Player this season as well.

Cornerback Byron Parker cemented himself as one of the league's best defensive players with his stellar play after returning to the Argonauts midway through the 2006 campaign. The athletic speedster set both team and league records for interception return yards in a single season with 348 and firmly entrenched himself in third place on the Argos' all-time single-season interceptions list. On Labour Day in Hamilton, the Tulane product also set a club record for most interception return yards in one game (135) and tied a club record for most interception return touchdowns in one quarter (2).

This is the eighth time that Noel Prefontaine has been named a league All-Star. The Canadian punter/kicker defines consistency and has been named an All-Star in every season of his career but one. Noel finished the 2006 campaign with a league-best 6,345 punting yards (46.3 average). The East Division nominee for Special Teams Player of the Year also recorded 3,989 yards off kickoffs, the second-best performance of his nine-year CFL career.
