
Tribe Win With Walk- Off

INDIANAPOLIS -- Right fielder Adam Boeve led off the bottom of the ninth by smoking a line drive over the right-centerfield wall as Indianapolis scored a dramatic 5-4, walk-off win over Durham in front of 13,635 Friday evening at Victory Field.
The Indians improve to 50-48 overall and 29-21 at home, while the Bulls fall to 52-47 on the season and 25-23 on the road. Both clubs remain in the International League's Wild Card race, which Buffalo continues to lead at 52-44.
Boeve's second Triple-A homer of 2007 came on a 2-1 pitch and gave the Tribe its fifth walk-off win of the year. The 27-year-old, who was playing in just his 10th game with Indianapolis this season, added a third-inning single and fifth-inning triple to finish 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Boeve's performance led a balanced attack for the Indians, who collected 14 base knocks in the win. C Humberto Cota finished the affair 3-for-3, while DH Yurendell de Caster (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI), SS Brian Bixler (2-for-3), LF Michael Ryan (2-for-4, 1 RBI), and CF Luis Matos (2-for-4, 1 RBI) registered two base knocks apiece.
The contest went back and forth through 7 1/2 innings. CF Jason Pridie put Durham on the scoreboard in the first by smashing a solo homer to right -- his third of the season. De Caster got Indianapolis rolling the next frame by crushing a solo roundtripper to right center -- his ninth of the campaign.
After more see-saw action, the Bulls tied the affair in the eighth when Pridie trotted home on 1B Chris Richard's sacrifice fly to right center. Pridie went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. He finished a single short of the cycle, complementing the long ball with a third-inning triple and sixth-inning double.
RF Justin Ruggiano (2-for-4, 1 RBI) and former Tribe SS Jorge Velandia (2-for-4) recorded two hits apiece for Durham.
Indianapolis RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) suffered his third blown save of 2007, but improved to 2-2 with the win. Durham RHP Seth McClung (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER), who pitched the eighth and faced Boeve in the ninth, slipped to 1-5 with the loss.
The two starters -- Indians RHP John Wasdin (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO) and Bulls RHP Jeff Niemann (6.0 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO) -- did not figure in the decision.
Indianapolis ends a seven-game skid at Victory Field -- its worst drought since July 21-Aug. 5, 2005.
The teams return to Victory Field on Saturday at 7 p.m., for game two of the four-game set. LHP Mike Prochaska is scheduled to start for Durham, while RHP Bryan Bullington is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
Saturday will be the second of three Team Autograph Nights this season as Indians players and coaches are scheduled to sign autographs on the concourse from 5:45-6:30 p.m. America's Best Frisbee Dogs will also be on hand to entertain fans courtesy of Clarian Health.
