Walk Off Slam Gives Braves Win

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Toledo Mud Hens 8-5 at The Diamond Friday night. Brent Lillibridge crushed a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to give the Braves the win in the opener of a four game series.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI fielder's choice by Larry Bigbie. Toledo answered with three runs in the fourth. Jack Hannahan knocked in a run with a double. Brent Clevlen produced a run with a ground out. Henry Mateo chased a run in with a single. Martin Prado's sacrifice fly cut Toledo's lead to 3-2 in the home half. Lillibridge smacked an RBI double in the fifth to tie the game. The Braves moved in front in the sixth when Pete Orr scored on a double play. The Mud Hens tied the game at four in the seventh on an RBI double by Chris Shelton. Hannahan singled a run home in the ninth to give the Hens a 5-4 lead. Lillibridge walk-off grand slam followed a single, an error, and a walk.

Joey Devine picked up the win. Aquilino Lopez took the loss. Lillibridge had four hits and five RBI. Prado, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, also had four hits for the Braves. Andres Torres had three hits for the Mud Hens.
