Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The ValleyCats entered Sunday's matinee in danger of being swept by their division rivals the New Jersey Jackals, and falling one game below .500 entering the All-Star break.

The 'Cats sent Jose Cruz to the mound in the weekend finale. Cruz would throw 4.1, allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits. He would depart in the fifth with a two-run lead, thanks to leadoff back-to-back home runs from Frontier League All-Stars Pavin Parks and Brantley Bell in the first, and veteran slugger Denis Phipps in the top of the third.

The 'Cats would squander a five-run lead and enter the bottom of the ninth inning tied at 6. After a strikeout to start the inning, Trey Cochran-Gill would surrender two singles, with both runners advancing on a wild pitch. The winning run would cross the plate for the Jackals on an error charged to second baseman Jace Mercer, securing the Jackals' sweep entering the All-Star break.
