Tri-City Surrenders Three Homers to Québec in Series Opener

QUÉBEC, CANADA - The Tri-City ValleyCats (48-31) fell victim to the long ball, and dropped the series opener 8-1 to the Québec Capitales (50-28) at Stade Canac on Tuesday.

Tri-City broke the deadlock in the fourth. Jakob Goldfarb launched a solo home run off Ruben Ramirez. His 12th round-tripper of the season provided the ValleyCats with a 1-0 lead.

Justin Gideon tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth after hitting a solo shot off Angelo Baez.

Québec took the lead in the fifth. Tommy Siedl cranked a solo homer. Ethan Boies singled, and Ruben Castro walked, and T.J. White had a base hit to load the bases. Gideon lifted a sac fly, and Castro went to third. Juremi Profar had an RBI infield single to give the Capitales a 4-1 advantage.

Tanner Propst walked Seidl in the sixth. Boies knocked in a run with a triple. Castro was hit by a pitch, and afterward, White drilled a three-run jack to put Québec ahead, 8-1.

Ramirez (7-2) earned the win. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up a run on six hits, walking two, and striking out three.

Baez (4-6) received the loss. He tossed 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking two, and striking out two.

The ValleyCats play the middle game of the three-game series against the Capitales tomorrow, Wednesday, August 16. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
