Tri-City Storm Hangs on to Nip Fargo, 5-3

Fargo, N.D. - The Tri-City Storm scored the first four goals and hung on to nip the Fargo Force, 5-3, Friday at Scheels Arena.

Paul Washe scored two goals in the first 2:25 of the game. The Force rallied to score three straight goals after going down, 4-0, but the Storm's Philip Alftberg notched an insurance tally with less than six minutes left to end the run.

Dayton Rasmussen pitched a perfect 13-save third period, finishing the contest with 32 saves and his fifth win of the year. Ryan Bischel took the loss with 19 saves on 21 shots. The backup replaced Matt Murray after the starter gave up three goals on five shots.

Linemates Alex Limoges (1g, 1a) Charlie Kelleher (2a) each notched multi-point games.

Tri-City (5-4-0-1, 11 points) has won three straight games, a season best, and matches the Force (4-6-0-0, 8 points) Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

The Storm's four-goal first period matched a season high (Oct. 14, Cedar Rapids) and Tri-City led by three at the break.

Washe scored a pair of goals in the opening 2:25. Thirty-eight seconds in, Washe gained the puck at the right post and wrapped the puck through Murray's legs, assisted by Joe Cipollone and Brian Hawkinson.

At 2:25, Washe scored a power-play goal with a slot shot. Joey Matthews cruised a seam pass to Washe and Limoges earned a secondary assist. A second-year forward from Clarkston, Michigan, Washe has a pair of multi-goal efforts this season. The Storm's power play went 1-for-2 and Tri-City has man-up goals in six straight games.

From nearly the same spot at the slot 2:44 later, Wyatt Bongiovanni scored on a rush-chance, assisted by Charlie Kelleher. Bongiovanni has three goals and eight points this season. Murray was pulled after allowing the goal, the Storm's fifth shot of the period.

Kelleher earned his second helper of the first at 10:35, dishing to Limoges on the right wing. The winger wristed it to the far post and past Bischel.

With 41 seconds left in the first, the Storm yielded a power-play goal to Jack Adams. The Union College commit scored 48 seconds into the second for his team-best seventh of the season.

The Storm allowed a goal to Carson Musser, his first of the season, with 1:16 left in the second, cutting Tri-City's edge to 4-3.

With Fargo pushing for a tie, Philip Alftberg broke his stick and scored an insurance goal to put the Storm up by two. A straightaway slap shot was shanked, but the goalie Bischel mishandled the puck at the left post and it wound up in the net, with an assist to Adam Goodsir at 14:11 of the third.

The Storm and Force finish up the weekend on Saturday, October 29 with a 7:05 puck drop.

Tri-City is at home on Friday, November 4 against Omaha at 7:05 p.m. on Social Media night, presented by the Nebraska Lottery. It's a $5 Kids Friday, presented by Kearney Taco Bell. All kids 12 and under get $5 tickets, plus a voucher for a free taco and soft drink at Kearney Taco Bell.
