Tri-City Increases Win Streak to Seven Games

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm increased its season high winning streak to seven consecutive games in a 10-2 thrashing over the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Viaero Center on Friday night. Tri-City specialty teams shined in the victory, scoring four powerplay goals and one shorthanded goal. The Storm fell one goal short of tying the organization's record for most goals scored in a single game (11). Goal scorers in the game for Tri-City included Mitchell Miller (2), Tanner Adams, Jeremy Wilmer, Josh Eernisse, Gavin Brindley, Kieran Cebrian, Lleyton Roed, Aiden Dubinsky, and Drew Montgomery. Arsenii Sergeev backstopped Tri-City to victory in a 21 save on 23 shot effort. Puck drop for tomorrow's rematch between the Buccaneers and Storm is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Following Friday's 10 goal effort against the Buccaneers, tickets for Saturday's home game at the Viaero Center can be purchased for only $10 at www.StormHockey.com. The Tri-City Storm and the Viaero Center will host a canned food drive at tomorrow's game to benefit the Kearney Jubilee Center. Fans who bring three canned food items to the game will receive a voucher to attend an upcoming Storm home game. Drink specials at Saturday's game will include $3 cans of Busch Light. Tomorrow night's game will be the Storm's final home game for nearly one month. After completing a seven-game road trip, Tri-City will return home to host the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday, December 17th, and Saturday, December 18th.
The Buccaneers' Killian Kiecker-Olson scored on the opening shot of the game just 35 seconds into Friday's 1st period to give Des Moines a one-goal lead. Davis Burnside and Scout Truman recorded an assist on the goal. Less than one minute later, Mitchell Miller netted his sixth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Miller's goal was scored at 1:11 of the period and was assisted by Jeremy Wilmer and Cole O'Hara. Tanner Adams gave Tri-City a 2-1 lead on a powerplay goal scored at 7:57 of the period. Adams' goal was his fourth of the season and was assisted by Graham Gamache and Gavin Brindley. The final goal of Friday's 1st period was netted on the powerplay at 14:07 by Jeremy Wilmer. Wilmer's goal was his team-leading eighth of the season and was assisted by Ilya Nikolaev and Mitchell Miller. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 15-10 in the 1st period and carried a two-goal lead into the 2nd period.
Josh Eernisse scored the only goal of the 2nd period to increase Tri-City's lead to 4-1. Eernisse's goal was scored shorthanded at 8:24 of the 2nd period and was unassisted. The Storm's penalty kill was tested twice in the 2nd period and kept Des Moines off the scoreboard. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 10-8 in the 2nd period and led 4-1 entering the 3rd period.
Mitchell Miller scored his seventh goal of the season in the opening two minutes of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 5-1 lead in the game. Miller's goal was scored on the powerplay and was assisted by Cole O'Hara. Less than one minute later, at 2:31 of the 3rd period, Gavin Brindley scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Storm a five-goal lead in the game. Brindley's goal was netted on the powerplay at 2:31 of the 3rd period and was assisted by Andrew Strathmann. With less than seven minutes to play in Friday's game, Kieran Cebrian scored his third goal of the season. The goal gave Tri-City a 7-1 lead and was assisted by Graham Gamache. Lleyton Roed netted his fourth goal of the year at 14:24 of the 3rd period to push the Storm's lead to seven goals. Nate Benoit notched his first career USHL assist and first career USHL point in the play. Aiden Dubinsky scored for the second time this season at 15:49 of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 9-1 advantage in the game. Cole O'Hara recorded the lone assist on the play. Tri-City's final scoring play of the night was recorded by Drew Montgomery at 17:10 of the 3rd period. Montgomery's goal was his second of the season. After surrendering ten unanswered goals, Des Moines' Mitchell Wolfe scored the final goal of the game at 17:56 to bring the score to 10-2. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 16-5 in the 3rd period and 41-23 overall in the game.
Arsenii Sergeev improved to 9-1-0-0 on the season in net for the Storm in the victory. Lucas Szyszka made 31 saves on 41 saves to record the loss in goal for the Buccaneers. Mitchell Miller was named the 1st Star of Friday's game after scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season and also providing the Storm offense with an assist during the game. Jeremy Wilmer scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 10-2 victory and also notched an assist during the 1st period. Wilmer was named the 2nd Star of the Game. Arsenii Sergeev was named the 3rd Star of Friday's game after stopping 21 of Des Moines' 23 shots on net during the game. Friday's game was played in front of a crowd of 1,927 at the Viaero Center.
Tri-City now sets its sights on eight consecutive victories for the second time in the last two seasons. The Storm recorded eight straight wins during the 2020-2021 regular season from March 18th, 2021, to April 10th, 2021. Although Tri-City fell one goal short of tying the organization's record for most goals in a single game, Friday's game at the Viaero Center marked the second time in team history Tri-City has netted exactly 10 goals in a single game. The Storm also scored 10 goals on November 1st, 2002, in a 10-1 home victory over the Green Bay Gamblers. Tri-City's team record for most goals scored in a single game was set on January 27th, 2001, in an 11-0 shutout of the Rochester Mustangs at the Viaero Center. Tri-City tied an organization record for most goals scored in a single period in Friday night's 3rd period (6). The team record for most goals scored in a single period (6) was first recorded on November 1st, 2002, in the previously mentioned 10-1 home win over Green Bay. Tri-City's 10 goals scored in Friday's game were the most goals netted by one team in any game in the USHL to this point in the 2021-2022 regular season.
