Tri-City Falls 2-1 in Shootout to Chicago

Geneva, IL - The Tri-City Storm dropped a 2-1 shootout decision tonight to the Chicago Steel. Joe Berg scored Tri-City's only goal of the game in the 1st period and Andrius Kulbis-Marino scored the Storm's only goal in the shootout. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow in another road game against the Chicago Steel. Tomorrow's game is Tri-City's final game before the upcoming holiday break. Puck drop for tomorrow's game is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Chicago's John Spetz netted the opening goal of the game just over four minutes into the 1st period to give the Steel a 1-0 advantage over the Storm on home ice. At 18:21 of the 1st period, Tri-City's Joe Berg scored his third goal of the year to tie the game. Andrius Kulbis-Marino and Asa Kinnear assisted on Berg's game tying goal. Chicago outshot Tri-City 10-9 in the 1st period, and the 2nd period began in a 1-1 tie.

No goals were scored in the 2nd period, and each team registered five shots on net. In the 3rd period, Tri-City outshot Chicago 12-7 but another period without goals led to an overtime period. Chicago outshot Tri-City 2-1 in overtime, but the 1-1 game would need a shootout to decide a winner.

Andrius Kulbis-Marino shot first in the shootout and gave Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Mackie Samoskevich scored to tie the shootout, and after Davis Burnside, Owen Power, and Colby Ambrosio failed to convert in the shootout, Mathieu De St. Phalle scored to give Chicago a 2-1 win.

Daniel Allin made 23 saves on 24 shots and recorded the shootout loss in net for Tri-City. Ian Shane stopped 26 of Tri-City's 27 shots and recorded the win in net for Chicago. The Storm climbed one spot to 5th place in the Western Conference standings by picking up one point in the shootout loss. Tri-City is now 10-11-2-2 through 25 games played in the 2019-2020 regular season.
