December 13, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

The Dubuque Fighting Saints were able to hang on and win a gritty game against the Green Bay Gamblers, 3-2 on Friday night at the Resch Center. Dubuque controlled the first two periods and took a 3-0 lead into the final frame. Green Bay scored twice in 58 seconds to cut the lead to one, before Dubuque clamped down to win. Aidan McCarthy got his fifth win in net, with a 36-save performance.

-Dubuque was their usual dominant self through the first two periods of play on the defensive side of the puck. The Saints, led by McCarthy, blanked Green Bay over the first 40 minutes of regulation.

-In that time, the Saints were also able to find a good amount of offense. Stephen Halliday scored his third of the season on a tip in front to give Dubuque a 1-0 lead after one. In the second, the power play took center stage as Braden Doyle and Ty Jackson both scored a man up.

-Doyle, Ty and Dylan Jackson all recorded multi-point nights. For Doyle, that gives him six points in the last three games and 16 on the season. Ty and Dylan continue to pace Dubuque at the top of the scoring race.

-Green Bay's push in the third didn't just last for their two goals, it continued for the final eight minutes of the period as well. Despite taking a few late penalties, the Gamblers managed good chances a man down. Nicholas Zabaneh hit a post with about four minutes left in regulation while Green Bay was down a man.

-The game started slow but ramped up as the Saints and Gamblers got more chippy as the contest moved on. It will be interesting to see what carry over effect occurs tomorrow as the two will face off again in Dubuque.

-Mason Lohrei and Jake Schmaltz scored the goals for the Gamblers that came 58 seconds apart in the third period. Despite all the offense coming in such a short window, Green Bay held pressure and created chances all night, peppering McCarthy with 38 shots.

-Three goals continue to be the magic number for Dubuque as they limited yet another opponent to two or fewer in the game. Since the start of November, Dubuque has been allowing exactly two goals per game.

-The series will end tomorrow night in Dubuque as the Gamblers trek down to the Mystique Ice Center. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 and it will be the last game for both teams before the holiday break.
