
Trenton RHP Kevin Whelan activated from the Disabled List

(Portland, ME)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Kevin Whelan has been activated from the Disabled List. RHP Bo Hall has been placed on the Disabled List.
Whelan was placed on the Disabled List on June 25th (retroactive to June 24th). Whelan was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two games for Trenton, before landing on the Disabled List. He had been promoted to Trenton from Tampa (High-A) on June 16th. He was 1-0 with a 4.67 ERA and one save for Tampa in nine games. Opponents were only hitting .186 against him in the Florida State League. During 2007, he split the season between Tampa and Trenton. He was 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA in 31 G with Trenton last season. He also had four saves. He struck out 68 and walked 42 in 54.1 IP. He was 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in seven starts for Tampa. Whelan was acquired from Detroit with RHP Anthony Claggett and RHP Humberto Sanchez for OF Gary Sheffield on 11/10/06.
Hall is 2-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 21 G for the Thunder with two saves. He has struck out 26 and walked 10 in 30.2 IP. He has spent some time this season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). He is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three games for the Yankees. Hall was selected from Milwaukee in the Rule 5 Draft (Triple-A Phase) on 12/6/07. He went 5-2 with a 3.46 ERA and one save in 34 G for Huntsville (Double-A) last season.
Trenton plays the final game of a four-game series this afternoon against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at Hadlock Field in Portland, ME. Game time is set for 1:00 P.M. RHP George Kontos (3-9, 3.54) will start for Trenton against Portland LHP Dave Gassner (1-5, 7.68). Trenton will return to Waterfront Park on Friday July 25th to take on Portland.
